It's been over ten years since my friend Kate asked me to join her in a quilt class at a local quilt shop. I wanted to give a gift to my brother and his bride for the wedding day. I believe that you really have to love someone to give them a quilt.
But I was hooked ... forever. That first year, I made over ten quilts for my friends and family. Since then, I have lost track of how many quilts I have made. (And I used to laugh at quilters who said that!) Many of my quilts are "out there."
But I still consider myself a beginner. I haven't made everything. I love piecing, especially strip piecing. I enjoy paper piecing and am currently working on my new bed quilt! I have done a little hand applique! I also take much inspiration from some of the great quilt magazines out on the shelves. Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting is one of my favorites.
Make sure if you get a chance to tune to to HG-TV or on a local PBS station for anything on quilting such as "Simply Quilts" or "Quilting with Eleanor Burns." No matter who you are, you can find a hint or two.
And if you have any questions about Quilt Making, I will be happy to answer them. But you will find, in the world of Quilts, everyone is helpful and happy to talk about their favorite thing in the world! |
